Kurdish Forces' Withdrawal from Syrian-Turkish Border Completed: Russia
"We continue to implement the memorandum of October 22 focusing on the area east of the Euphrates River in conjunction with Ankara," Maria Zakharova, the spokesperson for Russian Foreign Ministry Ministry, said at a press conference on Thursday.
She further added that Moscow's aim is to put an end to the military confrontations between the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and Turkish army.
"To resolve the first problem, the Kurdish units were withdrawn from the border with Turkey, regular joint patrols were established, a demilitarised zone was created along the perimeter of the Operation Peace Spring, and a Russian-Turkish coordination centre is now operational," the spokesperson said.
Turkey began an offensive against the Kurdish fighters in northeastern Syria in early October, but it later halted after reaching two separate ceasefire agreements with Russia and the US.
