ERBIL — Syrian President Bashar al-Assad said meeting with his Turkish counterpart, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, will not bring him joy.

In an interview with Italy’s Rai News 24, Assad said he would, however, meet with the Turkish president if it serves the interests of Syrians.

“I always say that my job is not to be happy with what I’m doing... It’s not about my feelings, it’s about the interests of Syria, so wherever our interests go, I will go,” Assad explained.
