International Community Must Do More to Help IDPs in Kurdistan: PM
The Kurdish prime minister also thanked the people of Kurdistan Region for welcoming the disparate IDPs and refugees with open arms, as well as the aid workers who helped Erbil find resources and assist the people in the camps.
“I am proud that this nation has never shied away from providing shelter to those most in need,” Barzani wrote on Twitter.
“Thanks to the brilliant aid workers who are helping us get the resources and support to those who need it, but the international community must do more,” PM Barzani added.
He also published a video showing IDPs and refugees, during which a Syrian Kurdish refugees at Bardarash Camp speaks about the harshness of their life during the cold season. “However, it is better than the agony of war,” he said.
Mousa Ahmed, head of Barzani Charity Foundation also speaks of the fast growing number of the Kurdish refugees escaping from Syria to the Kurdistan Region, saying that more than 100 refugees arrive at Bardarash camp on a daily basis.
“Managing these camps costs us $1.5 billion each year. The government will continue to the best of its ability to ensure all our brothers and sisters in need, whether they are from Iraq or Syria, get enough support,” Barzani pointed out.
“But it is also an international responsibility,” he added.
