ERBIL - Turkey has captured a senior member of the Islamic State (IS) during Ankara's incursion into Syria, Turkish Defence Minister Suleyman Soylu said on Wednesday.

Soylu made the comments while speaking at a security training symposium, in which, he called the captured terrorist an "important senior figure," as quoted by the Daily Sabah newspaper.

However, the Turkish minister did not reveal the name of the senior insurgent.

Turkey began an offensive against the Kurdish forces in northeast of Syria on October 9.
