ERBIL - Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani received on Saturday a delegation led by Major General Robert White, the Combined Joint Forces Land commander for Operation Inherent Resolve, in Erbil.

During the meeting, where the US Consul General Steven Fagin was also present, Barzani and White exchanged views on the latest developments in Iraq and the region.

The delegation commended the sacrifices made by the Kurdistan Region's Peshmerga forces in fighting terrorism, reaffirming the support of the United States to the autonomous region and its Peshmerga fighters.

They also reiterated the US' assistance to the Peshmerga forces in facing terrorism so as to eradicate the remnants of the Islamic State (IS) who still impose a great threat to the security forces and civilians in the country.

"Prime Minister Barzani stated that the military escalation in northeastern Syria is creating the conditions for a return of ISIS, and emphasised the need for Coalition partners to remain united against common threats," according to the readout of the meeting.

"The Prime Minister assured Lt. Gen. White of the Peshmerga’s commitment to continued coordination with partner forces."
