Kurdistan Region Security Council (KRSC) on Sunday released a statement to confirm the killing of the Islamic State (IS) health minister in Hawija, saying that the notorious jihadist was eliminated in a joint operation by the Kurdish Counterattack forces and the US-led coalition.

Islam Yassin Taha al-Obeidi, known as Abu Muawiya, was in charge of IS health body in their so-called Kirkuk state. He was targeted inside Hawija district on January 5.

According to the statement, Abu Muawiya was considered a senior IS official in the area who masterminded numerous terrorist attacks in Kirkuk and participated in the execution of four Kurdish Peshmerga captives in Hawija in October 2015.

BasNews previously quoted Vian Dakhil, Kurdish Yezidi Member of the Iraqi Parliament, who talked about Abu Muawiya's abuses against the Yezidi women in IS captivity.

"Numerous stories of physical abuses practiced by the terrorist Abu Muawiya have been reported,” Dakhil said, noting that several Yezidi women recalled their tragic stories at the hand of the extremist jihadist.
