Iraq Begins Repatriation of Citizens Stranded Abroad Amid Regional Tensions
The Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs has launched efforts to repatriate Iraqi citizens stranded in foreign countries, beginning with the return of the first group from Egypt.
According to an official statement released on Sunday, the initial convoy of Iraqis arrived in the country via the Arar Border Crossing with Saudi Arabia after being transported from Egypt.
The ministry said preparations are underway to evacuate Iraqis currently stranded in India, prioritizing those receiving medical treatment in hospitals. Simultaneously, arrangements are being coordinated to bring back citizens from Lebanon through Jordan.
“The Foreign Ministry is working closely with relevant government agencies and diplomatic missions to ensure the safe return of Iraqi nationals abroad,” the statement added.
The repatriation measures come amid severe travel disruptions across parts of the Middle East caused by the ongoing regional conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran. Airspace closures and heightened security concerns have left many foreign nationals stranded or forced to seek alternative routes home.
Iraqi authorities emphasized that these efforts aim to safeguard citizens as regional security remains volatile, noting that governments across the Middle East are implementing evacuation plans and emergency travel routes for their nationals.
