KRG Leaders Meet US Business Delegation, Highlight Investment Reforms
ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – Prime Minister Masrour Barzani reaffirmed the Kurdistan Regional Government’s (KRG) commitment to economic reform and foreign investment during a high-level meeting with a delegation of major American companies on Wednesday.
The delegation, led by Steve Lutes, Vice President for Middle East Affairs at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, included representatives from global giants such as Google, IBM, Visa, PepsiCo, and Coca-Cola. They were received by Prime Minister Barzani and Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani.
In the meeting, Prime Minister Barzani welcomed the delegates and expressed his appreciation for the longstanding cooperation and support from the United States. He detailed the KRG’s ongoing reforms aimed at diversifying the region’s economy beyond oil and gas.
The Prime Minister specifically highlighted progress in key sectors including energy, agriculture, banking, and the digitalization of public services. He pointed to the success of the "MyAccount" and "Runaki" digital government projects as evidence of the KRG's commitment to modernizing its infrastructure and improving the business environment.
"Prime Minister Barzani reiterated the Kurdistan Region's readiness to provide all assistance to domestic and foreign investors," a readout from the meeting stated.
Speaking on behalf of the visiting delegation, Steve Lutes thanked the KRG for its warm welcome. He stated that many American companies are eager to explore opportunities and develop stronger trade relations with the Kurdistan Region.
The meeting concluded with an interactive session where Prime Minister Barzani and Deputy Prime Minister Talabani addressed specific questions and comments from the representatives of the American companies.
