Iran Media Claims Drone Strike on 'Israeli Base' in Erbil; Kurdistan Officials Deny Allegations
Erbil, Kurdistan Region – Iranian state media claimed that an Israeli military base in Iraq's Kurdistan Region was targeted in a drone attack last night. However, Kurdish authorities have firmly denied the reports, calling them "misleading and baseless."
Officials in the Kurdistan Region stated that no Israeli bases exist in the area and dismissed allegations of any such attack. Instead, they confirmed that an unmanned drone had crashed in an uninhabited area near Erbil, causing no casualties or significant damage.
Local sources suggest that factions linked to Iraq's Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) may have been behind the incident, aiming to destabilize the region. The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has called on Baghdad to take legal action against groups responsible for such "provocative and destabilizing acts."
The incident comes amid heightened regional tensions and repeated accusations from Iranian-backed factions targeting the Kurdistan Region over alleged Israeli presence—a claim consistently denied by both Erbil and Baghdad.
