Kurdistan Region Prime Minister to Meet U.S. Envoy on Syria, Discuss Kurdish Rights in Rojava
Erbil, Kurdistan Region – Masrour Barzani, Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), is set to meet with Tom Barak, the U.S. President’s Special Envoy for Syria, in the coming days to discuss the latest developments in Syria and the situation of Kurds in Rojava (Western Kurdistan).
According to a report by The Monitor, Barak’s visit to Erbil may also include talks with Mazloum Abdi, Commander-in-Chief of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), to coordinate on Syria-related issues and strengthen bilateral cooperation.
This marks Barak’s first official trip to the Kurdistan Region since his appointment. The meeting with Barzani is expected to focus on U.S. support for Kurdish rights in Rojava, with the KRG leader likely to stress the need for Washington to take a more active role in protecting Kurdish interests in northern Syria.
