Kurdistan Regional Government Prime Minister Inaugurates Cement Factory and Power Station
Erbil, Kurdistan Region– Masrour Barzani, the Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), officially inaugurated a major cement factory and power station in a ceremony held on Sunday. The project, implemented by Dabin Group and Power China, marks a significant step in the region’s industrial and infrastructure development.
The newly opened cement factory has an annual production capacity of over 2.1 million tons, meeting a substantial portion of the Kurdistan Region’s demand while also contributing to Iraq’s cement supply. Additionally, the power station is expected to enhance electricity provision in the area.
Prime Minister Barzani praised the rapid completion of the project, which was launched less than two years ago, highlighting its adherence to environmental standards. "The project includes advanced filters to minimize dust and gas emissions, addressing potential environmental concerns," he said.
A key highlight of the inauguration was the announcement that the project has created more than 1,200 job opportunities for locals. Barzani emphasized that this aligns with the KRG’s commitment to supporting private sector growth and employment generation.
"Kurdistan is a suitable place for industrial development, and we will continue to encourage and back private sector investments that serve our people," he stated.
The Prime Minister also mentioned other ongoing projects, including the Gomêspan Dam tourism initiative, as part of the KRG’s strategy to diversify the economy through agriculture, industry, and tourism.
"This is just the beginning," Barzani said. "Kurdistan is rich in opportunities, and we are committed to advancing infrastructure and economic growth across all sectors."
He reaffirmed the government’s policy of strengthening ties with neighboring and international partners to further boost reconstruction and development efforts in the region.
The project underscores the KRG’s focus on environmentally conscious industrial expansion while driving job creation and economic resilience. Barzani concluded his speech by expressing optimism for Kurdistan’s future, stating:
"As long as stability and security endure, Kurdistan will continue progressing. Our goal is for our people and visitors to live in peace and prosperity."
The ceremony was attended by government officials, business representatives, and local community members, who welcomed the new developments as a positive step for the region’s economy.
