Barzani Stresses Need for Coordination to Address Nineveh’s Challenges

Erbil, Kurdistan Region – Masoud Barzani, President of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), met with members of the Iraqi Council of Representatives from Nineveh province on Wednesday to discuss ongoing challenges, reconstruction efforts, and political cooperation in the region.

According to a statement from the Barzani Headquarters, the meeting focused on the current situation in Nineveh, including living conditions, reconstruction progress, and the need for enhanced political coordination to promote stability.

Barzani emphasized the importance of unity among political parties to address the governorate’s challenges and support development initiatives. He reaffirmed his commitment to fostering cooperation among Nineveh’s diverse communities and improving their livelihoods.

Nineveh, one of Iraq’s most ethnically and religiously diverse provinces, suffered extensive devastation during the IS conflict in 2014. While the terrorist group was largely defeated by 2017, the region continues to struggle with reconstruction delays, the return of displaced families, and political reconciliation.

The Kurdistan Region has played a key role in supporting displaced persons from Nineveh and promoting stability in the area. Barzani’s discussions with Iraqi lawmakers underscored the ongoing efforts to rebuild the province and ensure long-term peace.

Officials at the meeting stressed that continued collaboration between Baghdad, Erbil, and local leaders is essential for Nineveh’s recovery.
