The KRG stands with the people and government of South Korea at this difficult time.
Fires Wreak Havoc Across South Korea
The wildfires, which broke out earlier this week, have caused severe damage, particularly in Gangwon and Gyeongsang provinces, burning thousands of acres of land and forcing mass evacuations. Strong winds and dry conditions have fueled the flames, overwhelming firefighting efforts.
South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol has declared a state of emergency, mobilizing military and disaster response teams to assist affected communities. Authorities warn that climate change and urban expansion may be exacerbating such disasters.
Kurdistan Region’s Commitment to Global Solidarity
The KRG has a history of offering support to nations in crisis, and Barzani’s message highlights the Kurdistan Region’s role in global humanitarian efforts. As South Korea battles the fires, international allies, including the KRG, have pledged solidarity and assistance.
The situation remains critical, with emergency teams working to contain the flames and prevent further loss of life and property.
