President of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, held a crucial meeting in Baghdad with the head of the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF), Falih al-Fayyadh, to address pressing security matters.

According to Rudaw Network's correspondent, Halkawt Aziz, the meeting included discussions on the recent drone attacks on International Coalition bases and Peshmerga headquarters in Erbil, along with a comprehensive review of the security situation in Iraq.

In a statement issued by the Kurdistan Regional Presidency, it was reported that "on the second day of his visit to Baghdad, Nechirvan Barzani, the President of the Kurdistan Region, met with Falih al-Fayyadh, the head of the Popular Mobilization Forces."

The statement highlighted that the two leaders deliberated on the security situation in Iraq, focusing on the threats and dangers posed by terrorism and ISIS attacks on the armed forces, security forces, and civilians in Iraq. They also discussed the latest developments in the war, its complexities, and its implications for the region.

Both sides emphasized that "Iraq should not get entangled in the region's complications, and the protection of security, stability, and the highest interests of the country should be a priority for everyone," according to the statement.

The statement further outlined that the two sides "concurred that targeting Peshmerga forces and drone attacks on the Kurdistan Region inflict harm on the security and stability of both Iraq and the Kurdistan Region."

The relations between Erbil and Baghdad, as well as Iraq's relations with neighboring countries and regional states, formed another focal point of the meeting.

This high-level engagement underscores the joint commitment to addressing shared security challenges and fostering cooperation between the Kurdistan Region and the federal government in Baghdad. As both regions navigate complex security dynamics, collaborative efforts remain crucial for ensuring the stability and well-being of Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.
