ERBIL — Eight members of Erbil Provincial Council have so far tested positive for the new coronavirus.

Kanan Khailani, head of KDP faction at the council, said also four staffers have contracted the virus which all together has impeded the regular council sessions.

BasNews has learned that the chairperson of the council and the head of Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) faction are among those infected.

Kurdistan Region has so far detected 16,000 infections, from which 623 people have lost their lives and over 10,000 have recovered.
