Russia: Ceasefire prolonged for northern Syria
Moscow (dpa) - Turkey will extend the ceasefire in northern Syria by another 150 hours, or more than six days, Russia's top diplomat said on Tuesday, just hours before the truce was initially planned to expire.

Russia and Turkey intend to jointly patrol a buffer area in northern Syria, near the Turkish border, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said after talks between the Turkish and Russian presidents in Sochi.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced that Kurdish militants (YPG) would have the 150 hours to leave the area.

"Within 150 hours from noon, October 23, YPG terrorists and their weapons will be taken outside of 32 kilometres. The group's fortifications and positions will be destroyed," Erdogan announced.

It was unclear whether there would be a ceasefire overnight as the ceasefire was originally set to end at 10pm (1900 GMT) Tuesday, but Erdogan spoke of the 150-hour extension beginning at noon Wednesday.
