KRG to Repatriate Remains of Anfal Victims Exhumed in Musanna
ERBIL - The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) is working on bringing back the remains of the Kurdish victims of Anfal campaign committed by the former Iraqi Baath regime in southern province of Musanna.

Sirwan Jalal, an official from KRG's Ministry of Martyrs and Anfal Affairs, the ministry is making preparations for the return of a total of 171 bodies of Kurdish victims, including 97 women and 74 children, from Samawa deserts located in the south of Iraq.

The Anfal campaign was carried out by Saddam al-Hussein's Baath regime in the 1980s against the Kurdish people which took place in three phases.

Jalal pointed out that a Kuwaiti special team has been working on exhuming the mass graves since 2003, including those graves that contain Kurdish remains of Anfal campaign which could affect the identity of the victims.

He further argued that a joint team should be formed from the Iraqi, regional, and Kuwaiti governments to unearth the mass graves in the area.
