German Defense Minister to Visit Erbil
Kramp-Karrenbauer arrived in Baghdad earlier today where she met with Iraqi Prime Minister Adil Abdul Mahdi.
She is set to visit Erbil and meet with senior Kurdistan Region officials, according to Shafaq News.
The German defense minister held a meeting with Jordan’s King Abdullah II a day earlier where she said Germany seeks extension to its troops’ mandate to engage in the war against terrorist groups like the Islamic State (IS).
She noted that Berlin has an interest in securing stability and ensuring that recent successes against militants like Islamic State make "a sustainable and lasting contribution to the security in the region, and also for security from terrorism in Europe and in Germany”.
