ERBIL — Islamic State (IS) militants bombarded villages on the outskirt of Khanaqin, north of Diyala province, on Friday, killing at least one civilian.

An Iraqi security official told BasNews multiple rockets were fired at different villages in the area of Imam Wais early morning today. Another civilian was reportedly injured.

At least 20 villages near Khanaqin have recently been completely evacuated by the residents as the threat of IS bombardments continues.

The security official explained to BasNews that the evacuation has provided the jihadists the freedom of movement and terrorist activities in the region.
