ERBIL - A number of Shi'ite militiamen of the pro-Iranian Hashd al-Shaabi tortured a Kurdish traffic police officer on Wednesday in the disputed town of Tuz Khurmatu, a source said.

Talking to BasNews on condition of anonymity for security concerns, the source revealed that the militiamen were from the Asaib Ahl al-Haq, a militia group operating under the umbrella of Iranian-backed Hashd al-Shaabi, who insulted the Kurdish policeman for no clarified reasons.

It occurred in one of the main streets in the town.

The victim was identified as Zanun Barzinji who was on duty when was attacked by the Hashd al-Shaabi militiamen, the source added.

They took his gun from him before going away, he said.
