Peshmerga Ministry Warns PKK over New Armed Group Established in Kurdistan
ERBIL — Kurdistan Region’s Peshmerga Ministry has warned the Kurdistan Worker’s Party (PKK) over the establishment of a new armed group, saying that Kurdistan Region’s stability is the limit.

Earlier on Thursday, PKK-affiliated media outlets reported the establishment of “Southern Kurdistan’s Core Protection Forces”, saying the new armed group will concentrate on the Kurdistan Region solely.

In reaction to the reports, Babakir Faqe, a senior official at the ministry of Peshmerga, told BasNews that the Kurdistan Regional Government and the Peshmerga forces have the right to defend if any group attempts harming Kurdistan Region’s interests and achievements.

“However, we will certainly not initiate any armed conflict,” he added.

Concerning the new PKK armed group in Kurdistan, Faqe believes that there is a foreign actor sponsoring the formation of the group who are attempting to harm Kurdistan Region’s security and stability.

He also noted that the US-led Coalition is also in favor of a stable Kurdistan Region, and they will stand against any move that tries undermining the achievements in the region.
