Former Governor of Kirkuk Arrives in Erbil After Arrest Reports in Lebanon
ERBIL — Former governor of the Kurdish province of Kirkuk, Najmaddin Karim, arrived in Erbil on Saturday evening.

Previous reports claimed Karim’s arrest during his recent trip to Lebanon, which were soon refuted by the Kurdish politician himself.

A source from Karim’s office confirmed his arrival in Erbil and said he is resuming his daily works from the Kurdistan Region capital city.

Previously in May, multiple local Kurdish and Iraqi media reported Karim’s arrest at Beirut-Rafic Hariri Airport, claiming that his passport was seized based on an Interpol arrest warrant over “corruption”.

Karim’s office soon rejected the reports, making it clear that any move against him is a retaliation for Karim’s support to the 2017 independence referendum of Kurdistan.
