ERBIL - Iran has congratulated Masrour Barzani on his election as the new Prime Minister of Kurdistan Region as he has already been tasked by the newly elected President Nechirvan Barzani to form the next government in Erbil.

The message was conveyed by the Iranian Ambassador to Iraq Iraj Masjedi on Thursday in which he also hoped that the relations between Erbil and Tehran will further strengthen during Barzani's term, as cited by Kurdistan 24.

PM-designate Masrour Barzani is expected to meet with officials from the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) and Change Movement (Gorran) in the middle of next week in efforts to establish a new cabinet.
