KDP, PUK to Meet on Sunday Prior to New President's Oath
ERBIL - The Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) and Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) are said to meet on Sunday for talks on the appointment of a new governor for disputed Kirkuk province, only one day before the newly elected President of Kurdistan Region to take oath.

In late May, KDP's nominee, Nechirvan Barzani, was elected as the new President of the Kurdistan Region in a parliamentary session with the PUK bloc boycotting the session.

However, talking to BasNews, Zana Mala Khalid, a KDP parliament member at the Kurdistan Region's Parliament, said that "the PUK has prepared a high-level delegation in addition to some names of nominees for the post of Kirkuk governor in order to meet with the KDP's delegation before the new president takes oath."

He stressed that the KDP would stay committed to all its agreements with the PUK.

In a similar statement to BasNews, Shamol Ashrin, confirmed that the two major Kurdish parties will meet on Sunday, noting that apart from the subject of appointing a new governor for Kirkuk, the two sides will also hold talks on PUK's participation in the ceremony of inauguration of Nechirvan Barzani which is scheduled for Monday.
