ERBIL — Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) on Tuesday officially nominated Nechirvan Barzani, the party’s deputy president, for president of Kurdistan Region.

BasNews has learned that KDP faction submitted Barzani’s nomination documents to the parliament.

The documents of each candidate will be sent to Kurdistan Supreme Court for verification within two days starting from Wednesday.

The parliament will later hold a special session to vote on the candidates.

Nechirvan Barzani is currently serving as the prime minister of Kurdistan Region.

His party took the first place during the last parliamentary election with 45 seats at the legislative.
