Landmine Kills Civilian in Sulaimaniya
The incident took place in the mountainous areas in the district of Penjwen, Sulaimaniya province, where a 57-year-old man was looking for certain herbs in the region, Kurdistan 24 cited its correspondent in the area.
According to a statement by the spokesperson for Penjwen Hospital, Luqman Mohammed, the rescue and other special teams went to bring back the body of the victim, pointing out that it took the teams several hours to recover the body due to the danger of the war remnants.
Thousands of square kilometres of land in the region are still covered with landmines from the Iran-Iraq war era when the Baath regime carpeted the border strip as a defense plan.
