Parliament to Reactivate Kurdistan Presidency on Wednesday
ERBIL — Kurdistan Region Parliament will convene on Wednesday (8th May) to vote on the reactivation of Kurdistan Region Presidency.

According to the agenda of the session which is issued by the legislative, it will also vote on an amendment to the presidency law.

The amendment hopes to allow the parliament to elect the new president. Previously, Kurdistan Region president was being elected in a public vote.

The session was set a day after Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) signed a final agreement with the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) to lay the ground for the establishment of the new cabinet.

According to the constitution, the new president should task the next prime minister to form the government within a month.

KDP, which was the frontrunner in the last parliamentary election, has nominated Masrour Barzani to serve as the next prime minister.

Barzani currently is the Chancellor of Kurdistan Region Security Council. He is renowned for spectacular success in leading the war against the Islamic State (IS) since 2014.
