Parliament to Convene, Reactivate Kurdistan Presidency Soon: Source
ERBIL — Kurdistan Region Parliament is planning to convene in the upcoming days to continue the discussions over the reactivation of Kurdistan Region Presidency and, possibly, elect the new president.

A source from the parliament told BasNews on Sunday that the legislative has prepared an announcement to invite the lawmakers for the session in the next few days.

Electing the new president is key to form the new government. According to the constitution, the president should officially task the nominated prime minister to begin with the formation of the new cabinet.

The report comes as a high-level delegation from the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) is meeting with the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) and Change Movement (Gorran) today. They are expected to sign separate deals over the formation of the next cabinet.

The PUK is insisting that, besides deputy prime minister, it should have the vice president position as well. For this purpose, there is the possibility of adding the second vice president as part of the deal with PUK and Gorran.

BasNews has learned that the legal committee at the parliament has prepared the first draft of an amendment to reactivate the presidency in line with a reform package advocated by KDP and Gorran.
