ERBIL — Security forces in Sulaymaniyah announced the arrest of a man believed to the mastermind behind a recent robbery of hospital salaries in the city.

Local media identified the suspect as “Shaho Mahmoud”, saying that he had fled to Kirkuk after the robbery earlier in March.

The incident occurred on 12 March when a group of armed men stoped van carrying more than 1 billion Iraqi Dinar. Security forces said the cash was to pay salaries of medical staff at Shar Hospital.

One day later, they arrests seven suspects and found the huge cash.

The last man arrested on Tuesday was previously given a life-in-prison sentence for a murder. However, he was released after reconciliation between the victim’s family and the offender.
