Erbil, the capital of the Kurdistan Region, came under a drone attack early Friday after three drones targeted the city, according to the Kurdistan Region’s Counter-Terrorism Directorate.

In a statement, the directorate said the attack occurred at approximately 2:17 a.m., when the three drones were launched toward Erbil. Coalition forces intercepted and destroyed all three drones before they could reach their intended targets.

No casualties or material damage were reported.

Footage circulating following the attack appeared to show debris from one of the destroyed drones falling near a residential project. Authorities said no damage was reported at the site.

The latest incident comes amid continuing drone and missile attacks targeting the Kurdistan Region during a period of heightened regional tensions.

Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani has previously said that the region has faced more than 1,000 missile and drone attacks, stressing that the Kurdistan Region will not become involved in wider regional conflicts.

In an interview with Qatar-based Al Jazeera, Barzani said the attacks had either been carried out directly by Iran or launched from within Iraq by armed groups.

“The Kurdistan Region does not want to be part of any conflict in the region,” Barzani said, adding that his government had not been pressured by any party to join the conflict.

He emphasized that protecting the Kurdistan Region and preventing it from being drawn into regional instability remain among the government’s top priorities.
