Israel Claims Major Strike on Iran’s Missile Launchers as Conflict Escalates
The Israeli military announced it had dealt a significant blow to Iran’s missile capabilities on Monday, as tensions between the two nations entered a fourth consecutive day of intense fighting. According to an Agence France-Presse (AFP) report, Israel said its airstrikes destroyed around one-third of Iran’s surface-to-surface missile launchers in a large-scale operation.
Israeli military spokesman Brigadier General Effie Defrin stated in a televised address that over 50 fighter jets targeted and destroyed more than 120 missile launchers.
“This amounts to one-third of the surface-to-surface missile launchers possessed by the Iranian regime,” Defrin said, as quoted by AFP.
The strikes come amid a broader regional conflict marked by repeated Israeli attacks on Iranian military infrastructure and retaliatory actions from Tehran.
Amid the escalating conflict, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) addressed concerns over the security of Iran’s nuclear sites, particularly the Natanz uranium enrichment facility.
Satellite imagery from Maxar Technologies showed damage to the Natanz site following Israeli strikes on June 14. However, IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi told an emergency board meeting on Monday that there was “no indication of a physical attack” on the underground cascade halls housing centrifuges.
Still, Grossi warned that “the loss of power to the cascade hall may have damaged the centrifuges,” suggesting potential disruptions to Iran’s uranium enrichment capabilities.
On the ground, Iranian media reported fresh Israeli strikes targeting western Iran, with civilian infrastructure suffering severe damage.
The semi-official Tasnim News Agency stated that “the Zionist regime has brutally attacked the fire department building at the Musiyan municipality” in Ilam province. Footage from the scene showed thick smoke rising from the damaged structure.
In Kermanshah, another strike reportedly caused collateral damage to a nearby hospital. Tasnim reported that “Farabi Hospital suffered serious damage” after an attack on a workshop in the area. Video shared by Fars News Agency showed shattered windows, collapsed ceilings, and extensive structural damage inside the hospital.
Israeli authorities have not commented on the reported civilian casualties or infrastructure damage. Meanwhile, Iranian officials have denounced the strikes as “illegal and in violation of international law,” vowing to defend the country’s sovereignty.
